What is match play format in golf?
Match play is a form of play where a player (or players) plays directly against an opponent (or opponents) in a head-to-head match. You win a hole by completing it in the fewest number of strokes, and you win a match when you are winning by more holes than remain to be played.
How does the Dell match play work?
The players are split into 16 groups of four players (each group has a player seeded 1–16, 17–32, 33–48, 49–64). Each group plays in a round-robin format over Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. One point is awarded for a win, and one-half point for a tie, with only the group winner qualifying to the next round.
How do you qualify for Dell match play?
The tournament has a field of 64 players filled based upon the following criteria:
- Top 64 players from the Official World Golf Ranking (ten days prior to the event).
- If anyone within the top 64 is not available the field is filled by the next highest ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking.

How are pairings decided in Ryder Cup?
Not all players must play on Friday and Saturday; the captain can select any eight players for each of the sessions over these two days. The winner of each match scores a point for his team, with half a point each for any match that is tied after the 18 holes. The winning team is determined by cumulative total points.
