What is a green star called?
Scientists say no, but observers swear Zubeneschamali, in the constellation Libra the Scales, does look green. Image via SOHO/ ESA/ NASA. Is a green star possible?
Any star emitting mostly green will be putting out lots of red and blue as well, making the star look white. Changing the star’s temperature will make it look orange, or yellow, or red, or blue, but you just can’t get green. Our eyes simply won’t see it that way. That’s why there are no green stars.
What do green stars represent?
Green star Its five corners represents five continents (according to traditional meaning – Europe, America, Asia, Oceania, Africa), the green color is the symbol of hope. Is our sun a green star?
That being said, the sun is a “green” star, or more specifically, a green-blue star, whose peak wavelength lies clearly in the transition area on the spectrum between blue and green. In the sun’s case, the surface temperature is about 5,800 K, or 500 nanometers, a green-blue.
What is a green galaxy?
A Pea galaxy, also referred to as a Pea or Green Pea, might be a type of luminous blue compact galaxy that is undergoing very high rates of star formation. Pea galaxies are so-named because of their small size and greenish appearance in the images taken by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).
How hot is Zubeneschamali?
12,300 K
Beta Librae/Surface temperature
With an effective temperature of 12,300 K, Zubeneschamali shines with 130 solar luminosities. The star is a very fast spinner, with a projected rotational velocity of 250 km/s. Its estimated age is about 80 million years.
Is a purple star possible?
Green and purple stars do exist. The color of stars depends on their temperatures, and they emit radiation throughout the visible spectrum. But when a star emits peak radiation at a wavelength we define as green, it also emits radiation over the rest of the spectrum.
Do green galaxies exist?
Green might not be the color of stars, but it is a color clearly present in and around many galaxies. There are even “green pea” galaxies out there. It was initially discovered by citizen scientist Hanny Van Arkel, as part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey’s “galaxy zoo” program.
