No. It depends on what type of content you want to play. Fractals and the required agony resistance make ascended gear a requirement further up (and reward players with better loot tables at the top end).
How do you get ascended crafting recipes in gw2?
CraftingEdit Ascended Armor may be crafted by level 500 Armorsmiths, Leatherworkers, and Tailors. Recipes can be bought from certain merchants (e.g. Master craftsmans) or obtained from opening certain containers or recipe books.

However, once you do manage to get some money (usually by level forty or so) you can craft levels. I recommend starting with cooking. It takes ~2g to max it out, and will give you 10 levels. After that, all the other crafts are 5g+ to max.

With the ease of access to ascended trinkets, it’s also recommended that players get ascended trinkets over exotic ones. As stated above, the gap is even smaller in damage when ascended trinkets are applied to exotic gear and weapons. Ascended trinkets are far better than exotic trinkets.
