Is inox the same as stainless steel?

In metallurgy, stainless steel, also known as inox steel or inox from French “inoxydable”, is a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5% chromium content by mass. Stainless steel is used where both the properties of steel and corrosion resistance are required.

Why is stainless steel called inox?

Stainless steel is a type of steel that is best to be used in moist environments. This is because stainless steel shows a minimum or no corrosion when exposed to air with moisture unlike other forms of steel. The term inox is another name for stainless steel.

Can stainless steel withstand high heat?

Most austenitic steels, with chromium contents of at least 18%, can be used at temperatures up to 870°C and Grades 309, 310 and 2111HTR (UNS S30815) even higher. An exception to this is the ferritic grade 446 – this has approximately 24% chromium, and can be used to resist scaling at temperatures up to 1100°C.

What is the best stainless steel for high-temperature?

Unlike the previous two stainless steel alloys, grade 330 stainless is frequently specifically marketed as a high-temperature resistant alloy. As noted on the Penn Stainless website, grade 330 alloy “has great oxidation resistance and resists scale formation up to about 2000°F due to its chromium and nickel content.”

What is the difference between Inox and silver?

Inox Fridge Freezer When silver is too light and black is too dark, there’s Inox. It gives you the effect of silver but in a much deeper hue – perfect if you’ve set your sights on a grey American Fridge Freezer.

What is the most fireproof metal?

Researchers have discovered that tantalum carbide and hafnium carbide materials can withstand scorching temperatures of nearly 4000 degrees Celsius. In particular, the team from Imperial College London discovered that the melting point of hafnium carbide is the highest ever recorded for a material.

Does heating stainless steel weaken it?

The Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) during the welding or thermal cutting process is larger on stainless steel because of lower thermal diffusivity (4.2 mm2/s) compared to other metals. This can lead to a change in grade (austenitic stainless steel turning martensitic, more brittle and harder) or heated metal becomes weaker.

What color is INOX?

It’s anodised aluminium colour.
